摘要
Love Rosa Hirschmann Gantt (1875–1935) was a pioneering ophthalmologist recently profiled in the journal.1 Her work to decrease morbidity and mortality from pellagra was laudable and her early efforts at school testing for vision, hearing, and skin diseases were forward looking.1 However, as detailed in this letter, we recently uncovered evidence demonstrating her troubling participation in the eugenics movement, for instance, labelling some children as "defectives" and relating the testing results to children's morality and criminal behavior without substantiation.
