Abstract
The heavy metal trace Hg-0 released by coal combustion poses a great threat to global environmental pollution. It was urgent to find efficient, cheap and renewable adsorbents instead of high-cost activated carbon to remove trace Hg-0. This paper would use the industrial solid waste-rice husk gasification char (RHGC) of biomass gasification power plants to remove Hg-0. In order to study the physico-chemical properties of RHGC and analyze the potential mechanism of Hg-0 removal, BET, SEM, TGA, XRD, FTIR and XPS were used to characterize the microscopic physical structure and the surface chemistry. The main conclusions were as followed: C content of RHGC was 43.58%; it belonged to a small mesoporous structure; the peak fitting of the XPS spectrum showed the absorption of oxygen-containing functional groups, chlorine and nitrogen-containing functional groups peaks, they played an important role in promoting the removal of Hg-0. This article provided a theoretical basis for RHGC removing Hg-0.
