Extraction of Contact Erosion Region and Evaluation of 3-D Surface Roughness Based on Improved Region Growth Method

Noncontact measurement is a kind of efficient and nondestructive roughness measurement method. Machine vision and image processing technology are effective means for machining quality detection and surface roughness assessment. Aiming at the characteristics of high gray level and low brightness in the erosion area of contact, a method for identifying the erosion area of contact and evaluating surface roughness based on the improved region growing method is proposed. First, the image was preprocessed to improve the contrast, and the pixel with the largest mean value in the contact erosion image was taken as the seed point to realize automatic selection of seed points. On the basis of mask treatment, the real erosion area of the contact was extracted and the erosion area was calculated. The experimental results showed that this method can not only locate and extract erosion area quickly and effectively but also quantify the surface roughness with erosion area and determine the condition of erosion.
