Preparation of Cardanol Functionalized Liquid 1,2-Polybutadiene and Enhancement of Interfacial Interaction on Butadiene-Styrene Rubber/silica Composites

With the increasing development of green and sustainable chemistry, bio-based additives in rubber materials become a hotspot. However, compared with traditional additives, bio-based additives had lower relative molecular weight and higher polarity, which led to poor processing property and mechanical properties. Cardanol (CA), a by-product of the cashew industry, is a renewable and inexpensive organic natural resource that can be easily obtained via the vacuum distillation of roasted cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL). Researchers grafted CA onto liquid isoprene rubber through a free radical mechanism, but the reported methods were usually complicated and the grafted rubber was prone to gel. In this study, bio-based CA were graf-ted onto 1,2-polybutadiene rubber (1,2-PB) to prepare phenolv-functionalized 1,2-PB (1,2-PB-g-CA) based on a mildly reactive olefin metathesis method and explored the effect of the product as a plasticizer on the properties of butadiene-styrene rub-ber(SBR)/silica composites.
