Acute kidney failure

Acute kidney failure or acute kidney injury is a serious disease. There are only approximate numbers regarding the incidence. This work points out relevant aspects in diabetes mellitus. Possible causes are shown. People with diabetes mellitus have an increased risk for acute kidney failure compared to those not suffering from diabetes mellitus. This is shown for diagnostic as well as clinically relevant risk constellations. Interdisciplinary collaboration, especially with nephrologists, is mandatory for diagnosis and treatment. Therapeutically relevant aspects and drug therapy options are also presented.
