South African Airborne SAR Facility towards Application and Technology R&D

This article describes updates to the airborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) facility developed at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research under funding from the Department of Science and Innovation in South Africa. This is the only experimental SAR facility currently operational in South Africa, and is used as a national testbed for SAR technology and application research and development. It is designed to be flexible, allowing for experimentation with a wide range of SAR modes and configurations. The recent developments of this facility and associated processes, as well as a few recent measurement campaigns is discussed in this article.
