Carbon capture penetration in Mexico's 2050 horizon: A sustainability assessment of Mexican CCS policy

•A CCUS Technological Road Map in Mexico is a policy option for decarbonization.•A socioeconomic and environmental analysis of CC uptake in the power sector is done.•Investment in CC technology allows a low costs CO2 emission reduction in Mexico.•The rest of environmental impacts are worsened and mainly domestically produced.•A domestic share of 45% in value added and 76% in job creation are obtained.
