Analysis of the impact of nasal colonization with Staphylococcus aureus on allergic airway inflammation in clinical samples and in a mouse model

Bronchial asthma is a complex and heterogeneous chronic inflammatory airway disease affecting an increasing number of patients worldwide. It can be discriminated into non-allergic and allergic asthma, with up to 80 % of all patients being affected by the latter. Next to genetic and environmental factors, the individual inflammatory response plays a critical role in the development and progression of allergic asthma. Drivers and modulators of this inflammatory response are of special interest regarding novel strategies for prophylaxis and treatment.
