Design of a Composite Body for Improved Performance of a V-Cone Flowmeter

In the present study the V-cone body has a fore-cone and an aft-cone. For the current study, β is fixed as 0.6 and the pipe size chosen is 50 mm in diameter. For the new design, the axial length of the fore-cone is split into two parts and made three combinations: i) 25% and 75%, ii) 50% and 50% and iii) 75% and 25%. The split results in two cone angles with primary angle as ϕ 1 and secondary angle as ϕ 2 . The primary angle ϕ 1 is varied in the range of 30°- 70° for 25%, 30°- 55° for 50% and 30°- 45° for 75%. The results show that the combinations of primary half-fore-vertex angle of 67.5°, 52.5° and 42.5° with split of axial lengths at 25%, 50% and 75% respectively performs better in comparison to the reference geometry.
