Topology optimization of proportionally damped structures under harmonic excitations: Analysis of velocity and acceleration responses

•The proposed method can adaptively calculate structural frequency responses.•Static responses are introduced to remedy the problem of lacking engineering feasibility.•Displacement, velocity and acceleration responses of structures are all considered.•The present approach is valid for the topology optimization of 2D and 3D structures.
