摘要
The aim of this study was to determine the interrelationship between body weight and thyroid hormone levels and the concentration of both total protein and protein fractions after electrophoretic separation in a selected age group of young, healthy, nonpregnant women. The concentrations of thyroid hormones (TSH, fT3, fT4), total protein and proteins in 6 electrophoretic fractions were determined. There were no significant differences (p > 0.05) in TSH concentrations between increasing BMI ranges in the studied women. Significant (p < 0.05) correlations between thyroid hormone concentrations and protein concentrations in electrophoretic fractions were demonstrated in groups of overweight and underweight women. The results indicate that BMI measurement in young healthy women is not a useful anthropometric parameter for the initial diagnosis of thyroid diseases. The differences in the associations between thyroid hormones and serum protein fractions after electrophoretic separation between underweight and overweight women may suggest their different mechanisms.
