Ovarian Volume Ratio is a Reliable Predictor of Ovarian Torsion in Girls Without an Adnexal Mass
Journal of pediatric & adolescent gynecology(2022)
Abstract
Background: Ovarian torsion is a gynecologic emergency commonly diagnosed in patients with abdominal pain and an adnexal mass on imaging. However, premenarchal girls are more likely to present without an adnexal mass and experience a delay in diagnosis. Ovarian asymmetry as measured by ovarian volume ratio (OVR) has recently been demonstrated as highly sensitive and specific in identifying torsion in premenarchal girls without an adnexal mass. The purpose of this study was to examine ovarian asymmetry in a separate population to validate OVR as a predictor of torsion in patients presenting without an adnexal mass.
