Evaluation of Genotypes of Human Papilloma Virus in Cervical Cancer Samples Collected from 2010 to 2020

Background and purpose: it has been confirmed that HPV has a pivotal role to play in progressing cervical cancer. Since cell culture and serology methods are not efficient ones in identifying this virus and its types, the importance of molecular methods cannot be ignored.Materials and methods: In this experimental study, after collecting 120 paraffin blocks from patients with cervical cancer in 10 consecutive years starting with 2010, Viral DNA was extracted, and nested-PCR assessed the HPV prevalence. Moreover, HPV sequencing was performed to identify specific types of this virus.Results: Out of 120 paraffin blocks prepared by a pathologist and diagnosis with cervical cancer, 75 paraffin blocks of human papillomavirus were positive.Conclusion: In conclusion, HPV types 18 and 6 were detected in cervical cancer tissues .This study showed that HPV can have detrimental effects on cervical progression; however, further investigation is required.
