P65. the Gut-Microbiome in Emotion Dysregulation in Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Up to 70% of adults with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) suffer from emotion dysregulation, such as reactive aggression. Despite the high impact of aggressive behavior on social and functional outcome, our understanding of the co-occurrence of reactive aggression with ADHD and the underlying mechanisms is limited. Potential links between both phenomena include altered neurodevelopment, immune- and neuromodulation, in particular monoaminergic neurotransmission. The gut microbiome has recently shown to influence these biological pathways and has been implicated as a potential biomarker for psychiatric disorders.
