INCISURA SCAPULAE MORFOMETRİSİ VE TİPLENDİRİLMESİ

Introduction: The suprascapular notch is located where the upper edge of the scapula meets the base of the processus coracoideus.The suprascapular notch is closed with the superior transverse scapular ligament and converted into the hole.The supra scapular nevre passes through this hole.Differences in the shape and size of the notch may causes suprascapular nerve compression.The purpose of this study is to examine the shape, dept hand width of the suprascapular notch and to determine whether there is a difference between the right and left sides. Materials and Methods: In our study, 18 scapula were examined in the Anatomy Department of Suleyman Demirel University Medicine Faculty. The suprascapular notch was photographed with a millimeter ruler and the measurements were calculated with the Image J program. Data were analyzed with SPSS 20 program.The depth and width of the suprascapular notch were measured. The suprascapular notch were divided into 5 groups according to their shape and depth. Type I –deep and U-shaped; type II –shallow and U-shaped; type III –deep and V-shaped; type IV –shallow and V-shaped and type V - foramen-shaped. Results: Type I, Type II,Type III, Type IV andType V was found%27.7, %16.6, %11.1, %33.3 and%11.1, respectively.There was nosignificant difference between the sides when the depth and width of the right and left side were compared (p> 0.05). Conclusion: In our study, the incisura scapulae types were similar to the current studies, but more parameters were used to group of the suprascapular notch types in this study.Knowing the morphological changes of the suprascapular notch is important in the surgical interventions to be performed in this region and in the diagnosis of nerve compression lesions.
