Introduction to a Special Issue: Care and Treatment for Substance Use Disorders: Studies from Around the World

We are pleased to edit a special issue of the Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment focused on research conducted outside of North America. The call for papers requested studies that addressed the organization, delivery, and financing of treatment for alcohol and drug use disorders (i.e., addiction health services research) and invited manuscripts reporting results from studies conducted in countries located in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and South America. Investigators working in low-income countries were encouraged to submit manuscripts. Potential authors (n = 45) submitted 250-word abstracts, we requested full manuscripts for 25 papers and after review accepted 11 papers for publication. The manuscripts published in this special issue originate from research conducted in Afghanistan, Chile, Iran, Kenya, Mozambique, Portugal, Sweden, Ukraine, and Vietnam.
