Analysis Of Failure Mode On Tunnel-Type Anchorage By Model Tests And Numerical Analyses

In this study, three-dimensional (3D) model tests and numerical analyses were conducted to investigate the pull-out behavior of a tunnel-type anchorage for suspension bridges. Special emphasis was placed on evaluating the failure modes of the tunnel-type anchorage. The comparison results of the failure modes on the anchorage showed that the numerical results were in good agreement with the model test results. Therefore, the applicability of the numerical solutions was confirmed for the evaluation of the pull-out behavior of tunnel-type anchorages. Based on the results of the model tests and the numerical simulations, the failure mode of the tunnel-type anchorage was shown to be plug and wedge-shaped failure that depended on the relationship between the length of the anchor plate and the diameter of the anchorage body.
