This work presents the modeling details of a power upconverter enabled to process base band signals from a Sigma Delta modulator. The modulated sequence is encoded for Ultra Wide Band (UWB) transmission using the RF blockset in Matlab/Simulink. The system complies with the indoor emission mask for UWB and presents a simple design consisting only of a Sigma Delta modulator, an XOR chain as the encoder, a mixer and a local oscillator. The behavioral modeling analysis of the RF stages show that the proposed system exhibits high sensitivity to phase noise above -80 dBc/Hz but is resistant to other system metrics such as nonlinearities and losses.
