Optimization and validation of a 10 kW permanent magnet brushless motor for small electric vehicles

摘要
This paper describes the choice and the design optimization of an industrial purpose permanent magnet brushless synchronous motor to be used in a small electric vehicle conversion. The suitable stator configuration for high torque density combined with reduced cogging torque and reduced torque ripple is analyzed. Finite element analysis is used to evaluate the performance of different electric motor configurations. An experimental validation of the motor configurations characteristics was made. The measured values of the back electromotive force and torque are compared with the numerical predicted values.
