Sers Spectra Of 3-Methylpyridine

SERS spectra of 3-Methylpyridine have been recorded on silver surface at different electrode potentials. Experimentally it can be seen that there are two bands of similar intensity recorded in the 1600 cm(-1) region and assigned to 8a and 8b modes. This behaviour is different to that of pyridine and 4-Methylpyridine in which only a band corresponding to 8a mode is enhanced in that region when the potential electrode becomes more negative. The charge transfer (CT) mechanism can explain such behaviour by considering a resonant photoinduced process similar to resonance Raman effect.
