•DHH can be suspected by CT or MRI. Definite diagnosis relies on histological examination.•Progression occurs in some patients. Liver failure is the main causes of death.•DHH can be classified into two types based on the tumor distribution and treatments.•Liver transplantation should be considered for patients with liver failure or congestive heart failure due to DHH.
