Modeling and Analysis of Demand Response Strategies for Datacenters in Smart Grid Environment.

With the wide application of cloud computing and massive storage, the power consumption of datacenters is growing rapidly. Large-scale datacenters are good potentials as demand response participants due to their high energy consumption, which has been widely concerned. Most of the existing researches focused on the energy consumption management in the datacenters, while the research on the application of demand response strategies in the datacenters is relatively less. This paper regarded the datacenter as a power load in the smart grid system, studies and analyzes its demand response management strategies, and establishes corresponding models with respect to different demand response programs. By actively and dynamically adjusting the power consumption of the datacenter in demand response periods, it can better participate in certain demand response programs. Considering the power consumption dispatching ability and electricity deduction of datacenter, we performed series of experiments to evaluate the effects of applying different programs, analyzed the best strategies that a datacenter should choose when participating in demand response programs, which could help to provide necessary instructions for datacenter management.
