Insight into the reason of prolonged viral RNA shedding in patients with COVID-19 infection

•Older age is the most important predictor of prolonged viral shedding in patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection.•Male gender was a predictor of prolonged viral shedding only at univariate analysis.•Disease severity (considering hospitalization and deaths) was not associated with a prolonged viral shedding.
