Abstract
As a design of the 14 T MRI magnet, a conductor which consists of Nb 3 Sn Rutherford cable and copper stabilizer has been selected for main coil winding. The main challenge with use of the Nb3Sn strand is its brittleness, the cabling process has become a crucial step. During the fabrication process of Rutherford cable, the strands are subject to server deformation at edge corners, this deformation can result in significant reduction of the critical current and the Residual Resistivity Ration (RRR). It is important to understand the main parameters that rule the cabling process and their impact on the cable performance. A 3D Finite Element (FE) model based on the ABAQUS/Explicit software has been established to simulate the whole cabling process of Nb 3 Sn Rutherford cable.
