Role of diet in the development of allergic diseases

Overweight and obesit, as well as allergies, represent a growing problem in all developed countries. An interesting issue is the impact of these health problems on one another. At present, a characteristic phenotype of asthma associated with obesity is distinguished. There is plenty of evidence that weight loss results in improved bronchial asthma control. What is more, weight gain can aggravate the course of asthma. Adipose tissue is immunologically active, which may be an important factor in the development of allergies. It is known that allergic inflammation is promoted by some cytokines and interleukins. Weight gain results in an increase of levels of Il-6, leptin, TNF-alpha. Il-6 and leptin influence the decrease in T-regs activity. The relationship between asthma and obesity is evident, but does diet affect the development of other atopic diseases? In this article we attempt to answer this question based on the latest publications.
