“X”-Shaped Incision and Keloid Skin-Flap Resurfacing: A New Surgical Method for Auricle Keloid Excision and Reconstruction

The auricle is a unique aesthetic unit in the head and neck area that requires bilateral balance and symmetry. It is also one of the most common sites for keloids, which lead to cosmetic deformity and psychological trauma. Numerous treatments have been used to treat auricular keloids, such as surgical excision, corticosteroid injection, cryotherapy, radiotherapy, and direct pressure. Nonetheless, it is difficult to achieve a good cosmetic result with a low recurrence rate. The purpose of this report is to introduce the “X”-shaped incision design and keloid skin flap resurfacing technique for the purpose of auricular keloid resection and reconstruction.
