Mechanical Properties of the TiNi and Surface Alloy Formed by Pulsed Electron Beam Treatment

The mechanical properties of the TiNi-based alloy irradiated with microsecond low energy high-current pulsed electron beam (LEHCPEB) as well as the Ti-Ta-Ni surface alloy were investigated. It was shown that surface modification by LEHCPEB of the TiNi alloy increases the hardness on average by 20 % compared to its initial value. Stress-strain curves as a function of temperature, corresponding to different structure (martensitic and austenitic) states of the TiNi alloy, displayed pseudoelastic behavior with almost completely recovering strain upon unloading.
