摘要
To determine the prevalence and epidemiologic characteristics of atopic dermatitis (AD) in America from published epidemiological studies A systematic review was conducted of epidemiological studies of measuring the prevalence of AD performed in any American countries. Systematic searching was executed in Medline and Embase without any filter of language and period. Two researchers individually selected and collected data from studies and the inconsistences were resolved by consensus. Prevalence were extracted by age, gender, race or severity. Meta-analysis of prevalence was executed with Freeman-Tukey Double arcsine transformation. Fifty-five studies were selected from 2,717 items identified. More studies were developed in United States (34.5%), following by Mexico (25.4%) and Brazil (16.4%). Cross-sectional studies were the most common design using definition of AD based on symptoms or medical assessment. The studies were mainly focused on children and adolescents (69.1%), followed by adults (20.0%) and general population (10.9%). The prevalence in general population was 12.6% (Confidence interval (CI) 95% 5.5-22.0%); younger than 18 years 12.2% (CI95% 10.6% - 13.9%); older that 18 years 8.7% (CI 7.9% - 9.5%); younger than 5 years 21.9% (CI95% 17.6% - 26.7%); children between 5 to 15 years 9.6% (IC95% 7.9%-11.6%). There were not found difference between of prevalence by gender (14.2% (CI95% 13.0%-15.4%) vs. 13.78% (CI95% 10.8%-17.1%)). Africa-americans (14.7% (CI95% 10.8%-19.1%) reported higher prevalence followed by Hispanics 11.6% (CI95% 9.2%-14.2%) and Non-Hispanic whites 10.6% (CI95% 9.6%-11.7%). Despite of severity was not frequently reported, the mild, moderate and severity of AD were 52.9%, 18.5% and 2.7% in younger than 5 years, respectively. Prevalence of AD in America have been width studied in the different countries with variant definitions of the disease. Higher prevalence was found in children and adolescent population mainly in the cohort of younger than 5 years.
