Climate-smart agriculture, household income and asset accumulation among smallholder farmers in the Nyando basin of Kenya

•We evaluate impacts of climate-smart agriculture technologies on household livelihoods.•We use data from a survey of smallholder households in Nyando basin, Kenya.•We apply statistical matching and simultaneous equation econometric modeling to estimate impacts.•Drought-tolerant crops are shown to improve household income and asset accumulation.•Households also invest increased income on improved livestock as an adaptation strategy.
