Abstract
The CMS CASTOR calorimeter will be equipped with 224 photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) in order to detect the Cherenkov light produced by the relativistic charged particles. Before the installation in the calorimeter these PMTs have to be verified for having sufficiently good performance. We constructed two different systems to make certain that PMTs have the required operational criteria to be used in the calorimeter. This paper details the CASTOR calorimeter, PMT testing systems, testing procedure and gives the results of the measurements.
