Tunable Terahertz Resonator Using Complementary Metamaterial for High-Efficiency Switch Application

Abstract
A tunable terahertz (THz) resonator (TTR) using complementary metamaterial is demonstrated, which is composed of a tailored Au layer on Si substrate. TTR exhibits polarization-dependence characteristic and shows superior properties in adjustability for high-efficiency THz switch application. There are three switching windows by changing inner and outer radius of outer ring and outer radius of inner ring of TTR. Furthermore, TTR exhibits high switching ratios by filling different materials into the cavity underneath the complementary metamaterial. These results provide an effective approach for THz switching application.
