•Chitosan-PHB conjugate was used as reducing and stabilizing agent for nano Ag.•Synthesis time of Ag nanoparticles can be shorten by several hours.•Presence of a chitosan-PHB coating on the nAg was proved.•Chitosan-PHB-nAg exhibited the fastest reaction kinetics of 4-nitrophenol reduction.
