Groundwater potential assessment using GIS and remote sensing: A case study of Guna tana landscape, upper blue Nile Basin, Ethiopia

•The paper deals with groundwater potential mapping using different thematic maps (soil, geology, slope, geomorphology, drainage density and lineament density) of the study area .•MCDA were used for weight assignment of thematic maps in relation to their groundwater contribution.•ROC curve were used for validation of predicted map using the existing pumping wells which are found in the study area.
