Characterization of strawberry (Fragaria spp.) accessions by genotyping with SSR markers and phenotyping by leaf antioxidant and trichome analysis

•A set of thirty-three strawberry accessions were genotyped with 35 novel SSR markers.•Based on ancestry, these accessions were categorized into three groups.•Measured leaf total antioxidant content and trichome density.•Found moderate positive correlation between total antioxidant content and leaf trichome densities.
