•The MCC/Cu2O/GO composite foams have been prepared.•The composite foams exhibit high photocatalytic degradation ratio toward MB.•Much higher derogation rate is achieved for the composite foams.•A concept of ‘micro-reactor’ is proposed to explain the mechanisms.
