Abstract
Women and health professionals have been exploring the effects of diet and weight loss on menopausal symptoms for many years but the evidence is conflicting and limited to hot flushes. There is observational and interventional evidence to suggest that adherence to dietary guidelines (low fat and sugar), and a high consumption of plant-based foods in particular, is associated with decreased severity of hot flushes. This may be independent of weight loss. This suggests that dietary components are important.
