Low-Loss and Highly Birefringent Zeonex Based Rectangular-Core Terahertz Fiber

In this paper, Zeonex based rectangular-core hexagonal photonic crystal fiber (PCF) is proposed to obtain high birefringence and low effective material loss (EML) at terahertz frequency. We use perfectly matched layer (PML) boundary condition with the finite element method (FEM) to investigate the modal properties of the PCF. Simulated results demonstrate that high birefringence of 0.0407, excessive low confinement loss of 1.29×10 −6 dB/cm, and EML of 0.098 cm −1 can be obtained at operating frequency of 0.55 THz. Besides, other crucial guiding parameters such as air-core effective area, power fraction, and bending loss of the fiber are discussed. This terahertz fiber can be a good applicant for several applications in terahertz regime.
