Methodology To Evaluate The Usability Of The Maps Viewer Of The Ecuadorian Sdi Geoportal

Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI) become visible through SDI geo-portals. However, their interface design does not usually meet the needs of the different users profiles, which leads to the underuse of SDI platforms. The lack of usability (effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction) of geo-portals is one of the problems being detected. This paper presents the results of the application of a usability test in the map viewer of the Military Geographic Institute SDI geo-portal in Ecuador. A task-based methodology was used and it was applied to regular users of the geographic information. As a result, some measures of effectiveness and efficiency were obtained. The measure of satisfaction was obtained through the application of an adapted version of the SUS (System Usability Scale) questionnaire. The results show that the users who participated in the test had difficulties in accessing both the information provided by the SDI geo-portal and the map viewer.
