Ipancreas: an APP to Facilitate the Calculation of Acute Pancreatitis Scores and to Guide the Management

Introduction: Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a complex and challenging disease, with a number of difficulties about diagnosis, severity stratification, calculations of scores and management. The aim of this study is to present an app that facilitates the calculations needed to properly manage a patient with AP. Method: To develop an app for android and ios platform for calculating the main aspects related to AP, such as determining the diagnosis and severity of AP, calculate the scores and propose treatment according to the latest guidelines from the medical literature. Results: We created a free app with a number of screens to facilitate the diagnosis and management of AP. In the first one there is a diagnosis calculator, severity calculator, and a flowchart. The second screen presents the modified Marshall Score, Atlanta revision, Determinants of severity, and other guidelines. The next screen make possible to guide the management of AP, with flowcharts about initial management, etiology, ERCP, antibiotics and surgery. There is also a screen that allows the user to insert data directly to a databank. Conclusion: This app can be an useful tool to the assessment and management of patients with acute pancreatitis.
