Evaluation of anti-Toxoplasma IgM-IgG Seropositivity among Women in Reproductive Period, Who Amitted to Suleyman Demirel University Hospital

Objective: Toxoplasma gondii causes generally an asymptomatic infection. If it develops during pregnancy, it can cause some fetal disorders. In the early stage of pregnancy, the risk of spreading of infection to the fetus is low while the possibility of appearance of serious symptoms is high. In the late stages of pregnancy, the risk of speading of infection is high while the appeared symptoms are mild even asymptomatic. This descriptive study was planned aiming to determine anti-T. gondii IgG and IgM seropositivity in the women at the ages between 15-49 who applied to the Suleyman Demirel University Medical Faculty Hospital. Methods: The anti-Toxoplasma IgM, antiToxoplasma IgG and anti-Toxoplasma avidite test results performed on the serum samples of the women in the reproductive period which were send from several clinics to our hospital medical microbiology laboratory between the dates 1 January 31 December 2013, were evaluated retrospectively. Anti-Toxoplasma IgM and anti-Toxoplasma IgG tests (Vitros, Johnson u0026 Johnson, ABD) were performed with chemiluminescence method while anti-Toxoplasma IgG avidite test were performed with enzyme-linked fluorescent assay (ELFA) method (VIDAS, bio-Merieux, OZET Amac: Toxoplasma gondii enfeksiyonu, insanlarda genellikle klinik belirti vermemekle birlikte gebelikte gecirildiginde fetus uzerinde olumsuz etkiler olusturabilmektedir. Gebeligin erken doneminde enfeksiyonun fetuse bulasma riski dusuk, ciddi semptomlarin ortaya cikma olasiligi ise yuksektir. Gebeligin gec donemlerinde enfeksiyonun fetuse bulasma riski yuksek, ortaya cikan bulgular ise hafif hatta asemptomatik olabilmektedir. Bu tanimlayici calisma, Suleyman Demirel Universitesi Tip Fakultesi Hastanesi’ne basvuran, 15-49 yas arasi kadinlarda anti-T. gondii IgG ve IgM seropozitifliginin belirlenmesi amaciyla planlanmistir. Yontemler: Hastanemiz Tibbi Mikrobiyoloji Laboratuvarina, 1 Ocak-31 Aralik 2013 tarihleri arasinda, cesitli kliniklerden gonderilen, dogurganlik cagindaki kadinlara ait serum orneklerinde calisilan anti-Toxoplasma IgM, anti-Toxoplasma IgG ve antiToxoplasma IgG avidite test sonuclari geriye donuk olarak degerlendirmeye alinmistir.
