Effects of tritium 2-D distribution on tritium depth profile reconstruction in BIXS measurements

•The effects of 2-D non-uniform distribution of tritium both on the intensity and shape of response spectra were evaluated quantitatively.•Beryllium, carbon and tungsten, which are candidate materials of ITER were considered in the calculations.•Tritium depth profile would deviate from the real amount of about -40∼100% without consideration of non-uniform plane distribution of tritium.
