Abstract
•Light-regulated electrochemical reaction has been confirmed to be useful to enforce the sensing behavior of amperometric gas sensors.•Acceptable durability to 100 ppm C3H6 within the examined period was observed, regardless the sensor been illuminated or not.•Response signal of specific gas species can be selectively increased after the sensor been illuminated, opening a bright future of artificially tailoring the sensitivity & selectivity of the amperometric gas sensors.
