Abstract
The aim of the study was to provoke inflammatory lesions in the colon of NMRI mice using 2, 4-dinitrofluorbenzene (DNFB) and to demonstrate the influence of different concentracions of locally applied DNFB, as wel as the previous skin sensitization of the extent of induced lesions. The animals in the experimental group werw treated with rectal enema of 0.1/0.2/0.5/1.0% DNFB solutions and with the rectal enema 0.2% DNFB solution after previous skin sensitization, respectively. The animals in control group received the rectal enema with the equivolume of phosphate buffered saline. Edema, hemorrhage, ulcerations and lymphoid hyperplasia in the lamina propria and submucosa were mostly prounonced in the group treated with rectal enema of 0.5% DNFB solution, and the group of animal skin sensitized prior to receiving the rectal enema of 0.2% of DNFB solution (P< 0.01). Colonic specimens of animals in the control group revealed no change, compared to colon of healthy mice. The results suggest the importance of immunogenic characteristics of DNFB, as well as its inflammatory and irritant properties when applied to mucosal surface.
