Population and production parameters of the wedge clam Donax trunculus (Linnaeus, 1758) in intertidal areas on the southwest Spanish coast: Considerations in relation to protected areas

•D. trunculus growth was updated using a modification of the thin layer technique and the analysis of the length-frequency distribution.•Length-frequency distribution clarified the timing of recruitment.•Population dynamics and production differed between protected and non-protected areas.
