Success for Combined Heart and Kidney Transplantation

Combined heart-kidney transplantation (HKTx) has proven to be successful. It has been demonstrated that an older organ, whether it is a kidney or heart, does not do as well in terms of post-transplant outcome. More heart transplant recipients are older in age, and may need a HKTx as well. It is not known whether these older HKTx recipients (≥ 65 years) have less good outcome compared to younger patients (<65 years) who undergo HKTx.
