Abstract
A study was conducted to determine the lipid requirement of fry of neon tetra (Paracheirodon innesi). Six isonitrogenous semipurified diets with lipid levels of 6.2, 8.1, 10.3, 12.3, 14.2 and 16.1% were prepared, and their effects on growth, survival and feed performance of P. innesi (0.0492 ± 0.001 g mean initial weight) were evaluated. Fish were fed by hand to apparent satiation twice a day, for 90 days. The weight gain (519.16%) and specific growth rate (2.024% day-1) were highest in P. innesi fed with 12.3% lipid level diet. The food conversion efficiency ratio (0.6678) and protein efficiency ratio (0.0046) was also better with 12.3% lipid level diet.
