Photocatalytic degradation of 4-chlorophenol in a photochemical reactor with an interconnected microchannel and a light guide network

•Photocatalytic microchannel reactor with a light guide network of fused glass beads.•The reactor has interconnected voids as a microchannel network for substrate solution.•Inner surface area of the porous glass column was expanded to 13 times as large as the column without beads.•Degradation of 4-chlorophenol was promoted in proportion to the inner surface area of the reactor as a support of photocatalyst.
