摘要
Background: The results of studies on the relationship between insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-1 and cardiovascular risk factors are controversial. In this study, the relationship between IGF-1 and the coronary artery calcium score (CACS) in asymptomatic men was investigated. Methods: The study population consisted of men who visited the comprehensive medical examination center of CHA Bundang Medical Center in South Korea between 2008 and 2011. Men who had cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, hepatobiliary disease, or malignancy were excluded. In this study, 210 men were included. Logistic regression analysis was performed to calculate the odds ratio of IGF-1 for coronary artery calcification. Results: For IGF-1, no significant difference was found between the control group (CACS = 0) and coronary artery calcification group (CACS > 0). However, in the logistic regression model adjusted for age, the odds ratio of quartile 4 of IGF-1 was 2.866 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.130-7.268). Furthermore, in the logistic regression model adjusted for age, total cholesterol level, high density lipoprotein cholesterol level, systolic blood pressure, smoking, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and fasting blood glucose level, the odds ratio of quartile 4 was 3.624 (95% CI, 1.322-9.930). Conclusion: In cardiovascular asymptomatic adult men, the IGF-1 level could be the independent risk factor of coronary artery calcification after adjustment for age.
