Performance evaluation of a full-scale innovative swine waste-to-energy system.

•The performance of a novel swine waste-to-energy system is presented and discussed.•Mass balances were conducted on COD, BOD, total nitrogen and phosphorous.•92% of COD, 99% of BOD, 77% of TN and 82% of TP was removed by the system.•The overall COD to biogas yield was 64%.•Process optimization should consider methods for dealing with recalcitrant COD.
