Comparing coronary artery fibromuscular dysplasia with coronary atherosclerosis: from clinical to histopathological characteristics.

•Coronary fibromuscular dysplasia (CFMD) is rare but severe due to its close relationship with spontaneous coronary artery dissection.•CFMD is characterized by thickening of the intima of fibrous tissue proliferation•This is different from renal fibromuscular dysplasia that is characterized by thickening of the media mostly.•This study is the first to compare the clinical and pathological differences between CFMD and coronary atherosclerosis.•Pathological investigation contributes to gain deeper knowledge about CFMD.
